Maimuna has recently been nominated for an Olivier for her role as Sonya in NATASHA PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET at the Donmar Warehouse, directed by Tim Sheader.
She has recently starred in The National Theatre's GRAPES OF WRATH directed by Carrie Cracknell.
Having joined Bella Ramsey and Jodie Whittaker in Series 2 of BBC's TIME, Maimuna also plays series regular Vedita in the BBC supernatural drama DOMINO DAY; BBC Three's most successful drama launch in three years.
Her screen roles include BAFTA nominated SHERWOOD and ITV’s UNFORGOTTEN.
The breakout star of London’s multi-Olivier winning STANDING AT THE SKY’S EDGE for which she received an Olivier nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Maimuna's credits include NINE LESSON AND CAROLS (Almeida), THE BAND PLAYS ON (Sheffield), and the show stealing Mary Magdalene in Timothy Sheaders JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR to name a few.
An exciting, multi-talented actor, writer and musician, Maimuna won the Stage Debut Fringe Award for her one woman show MANIC STREET CREATURE at The Edinburgh Festival before it transferred to London, winning 5* reviews across the board. Manic Street Creature has since been commissioned for a pilot with Carnival Films.
Having written the music for Carrie Cracknell's PORTIA at London's Almeida Theatre, Maimuna continued her relationship with Carrie by writing the music for GRAPES OF WRATH.
Previously Maimuna has written music and lyrics for NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS AT the Almeida Theatre and WELCOME TO IRAN for the National Theatre which was then adapted for BBC Radio .
Maimuna is now in development with her television show ‘Third Culture Kid’ which explores what it means to be a mixed race Muslim woman in modern day Britain.
